The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has mourned that lawmakers in government positions were driving the battle against coronavirus rather than Nigerian researchers.
NAN reports that Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, ASUU President, talked at a news gathering in Abuja on Monday.
He lamented that Nigeria’s wellbeing offices were not outfitted with satisfactory staff to react to the worldwide pandemic.
ASUU proclaimed that it was not persuaded that legislature at different levels are doing what’s needed since the country must ponder the globalized malady.
“Our association anticipates that legislature should utilize Nigerian researchers and other basic partners to battle the pandemic.
“Sadly, what we see are gatherings of lawmakers and civil servants expecting authority in the battle against the infection.
“We really trust government authorities are not playing with the lives of Nigerians and abusing the circumstances for self magnification.”
He said Nigeria required an order structure drove by specialists like analysts, researchers and clinical researchers.
“Up until this point, wanted outcomes are not coming, while announced cases are on the ascent day by day.”
Ogunyemi cautioned that the current coronavirus cases has the capability of expanding exponentially in the coming days.
